Step into the vibrant world of natural dyes in this immersive 4.5 hour beginner-friendly workshop. Whether you're a curious creative, textile lover, or sustainability enthusiast, this course will guide you through the basics of working with plant-based colour.
Together, we’ll explore how to prepare natural fibres for dyeing, extract colour from botanical sources, and apply techniques to achieve beautiful fun patterns and colour. Through guided demonstrations and hands-on practice, you’ll leave with your own naturally dyed samples and the knowledge to keep experimenting at home.

- How to safely and effectively prepare fibres (scouring & mordanting)
- Techniques for dye extraction using two different natural dye sources
- How pH, fabric type, and modifiers affect colour outcomes

No prior experience is required. All materials are provided. Just bring your curiosity and clothes you don’t mind getting messy!
All equipment and materials will be provided, and if there is space for it, your own old textiles to upcycle with the dye baths!
This workshop comes in a combo! Choose to take this class on its own OR continue working with your new dyed fabrics in our new Tiny Tote Bag Class. You will be dyeing the fabric pieces in this class and learning how to sew them into your own Tiny Tote at a later date (select below). Getting both classes gives you special promo pricing and learning the skills to create a fully finished piece.
Teacher's Bio:
Christie Wong is a Toronto-based natural dyer, weaver and creative co-producer for entrepreneurs, third space stewards and coaches. Her current practice explores the shifting landscapes of care, community and our inner gardens. She’s also a local bean-to-bar chocolate maker, gardener, writer, illustrator and Director of Marketing at Reset; infusing play and expanding joy into the process of marketing and making.
